Charles studied Geography with Sociology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and graduated in 1992.
He furthered his education at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London and obtained an MSc in Medical demography in 1999. He worked at the Navrongo Health Research Centre for one year as a Research Assistant before joining the centre 9 years ago.
He worked closely with the late Dr. Paul Arthur and Professor Betty Kirkwood on validation of maternal reporting of pregnancy complications, Safe Motherhood community key informant validation study, Safe Motherhood evaluation project He was also involved in a trial of the effectiveness of linking low dose oral vitamin A supplementation to the extended programme of immunization.
He is the Head of Field work in a study exploring the impact of vitamin A on maternal mortality in Ghana. He is also working on a follow up study to the effectiveness of linking low dose oral vitamin A supplementation to the extended programme of immunization.
He is currently with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as a research student and his research topic is ‘the socio-demographic and economic inequalities in risk factors affecting maternal mortality in 4 districts of Brong Ahafo region in Ghana’ He is particularly interested in Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition.
